No "blog about us" would be complete without mentioning our dog, Sadie. She is such a joy in our life that to us, she's become one of the family. We adopted her when she was 6 months old from a family who traveled alot and couldn't really give her the stability of a loving home. She is sooooo full of energy (really...soooo full of energy) and loves to play. But she's well-behaved in her energy. She is so excited when anyone comes to visit but after a few minutes, she settles down and is happy to either sit by or lick our guests. (Not everyone likes that.)
And maybe I'm being biased here but she is the smartest dog ever! She understands so many words: "sit, outside, go, no (a very important one), bed, night-night, treat, potty, where's daddy?", among many others.
She is also very sneaky. When we first brought her home, we "crated" her to help potty-train her. She learned so fast! So, we put a dog bed and blanket on the floor on the foot of our bed for her to sleep. She didn't like this one bit! One night, during a storm, she jumped up on the bed when she thought we were sleeping and when I realized she was there, I didn't make her get down because I knew she was afraid. But after that, we wanted her to sleep in her own bed. So she cleverly devised a plan: wait for mommy and daddy to fall asleep; jump on the bed and be still to make sure she hasn't woken us up; and then find her way to a comfy spot on the bed to sleep until morning. When we figured out what she was doing, we were so impressed that we let her sleep in bed with us and now she curls up as close as she can beside us under the blankets and doesn't get up until around 11am. She's not a morning dog, I guess..haha.
She loves to cuddle and loves to play. She will only play with one toy -- it's the one Lyle's brother bought her. She had a ton of toys, but we threw them out because she'd never play with anything but her "one" toy. She is a creature of habit and quite spoiled I have to admit. She knows how to pout and has decided that our guest bedroom is her "quiet time" room. If we're too busy to play with her, she will go into that room and lay on the bed. It's pretty funny actually.
She has so much personality and fits perfectly into our family. Animals are such a blessing to have around because they are always happy to see you and don't care what you look like -- they only want to be loved. She's also great with kids. When my best friend brought over her baby daughter, Sadie looked cautiously at her and licked her face when she spit-up (gross!) She is so gentle and it makes me happy to know she will be a good "sibling" to our future children. We love her and are "animal-loving" people. We're so glad she's in our life!
